Boumalne du Dades, Morocco April 2014 The Greater Hoopoe-lark is distributed in desert and semi-desert from Morocco and Mauritania across northern Africa to the Arabian Peninsula and into Pakistan. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. |

It has adapted to the desert conditions by not requiring
drinking water. It obtains moisture from the invertebrates and small vertebrates that it catches with its long bill.
Its melodious song is very characteristic. It starts slowly then accelerates as the bird climbs in the air. |
