| Tropical Kingbird Tyrannus
melancholicus Brazilian name: suiriri |
| Brazil The Tropical Kingbird is one of the most abundant birds of open and semi-open habitat and it has adapted well to towns and cities. |
| It is found from Central America to central Argentina but is missing from southern Peru and Chile. There is a semi-concealed orange crown patch on its grey head and it has a pale grey throat leading to a dusky olive breast and yellow underparts. |
| It usually perches out in the open and is one of the first birds to sing in the day often before sunrise. It is also very pugnacious and will chase away much bigger birds in a somewhat "tyrannical" way. There are illustrations in Ridgely & Tudor, Volume 2, Plate 44; Hilty & Brown, Plate 39; and Sick, Plate
33. |
