The Eastern Kingbird breeds in North America from British Colombia to Newfoundland and south to New Mexico and Florida. It winters in South America in the Andes and western Amazonia. See the distribution map at NatureServe.

Eastern Kingbird, Otun-Quimbaya, Risaralda, Colombia, April 2012 - click for larger image It is found in a wide variety of habitats. This bird was perched in the canopy in the open and was hawking for insects before returning to the same perch.

On migration and in its winter quarters it does not appear to vocalize.
