The Santa Marta Antpitta is endemic to the Santa Marta mountains where it is found on the ground and in the understorey of humid forest and forest borders at between 1,200 and 2,400 metres.

They are difficult to see but this bird was calling as it circled round us and I happened to catch it just before it jumped across the trail.

Jeremy Minns recorded this bird making an atypical song and probably the same bird with a more typical song about 5 hours later.
