The Rufous-breasted Flycatcher is distributed in the Andes from the west of Venezuela through Colombia and Ecuador to the north of Peru. See the distribution map at xeno-canto. It is found at low and medium heights of forest and forest borders at between 1,500 and 2,600 metres.
