Cuba and Guatemala The Rose-breasted Grosbeak breeds in southern Canada and east and central USA. It winters in the West Indies, Central America and northern South America. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in forests and gardens where it feeds on seeds and fruits. In Cuba (photo 1) it is regarded as a rare transient or very rare winter resident. |

Photos 1 and 3 show females with a very heavy pale bill, conspicuous white supercilium, whitish wing-bars and buffy underparts with dark brown streaks on the breast and flanks. The non-breeding male, seen here in photo 2, is similar but is more black than brown and usually has a hint of rose on its breast. | |||
