La Güira, Cuba
February 2005

The Rose-breasted Grosbeak breeds in southern Canada and east and central USA. It winters in the West Indies, Central America and northern South America. It is found in forests and gardens where it feeds on seeds and fruits.

In Cuba it is regarded as a rare transient or very rare winter resident. This photo shows a female with its very heavy pale bill, conspicuous white supercilium, whitish wing-bars and buffy underparts with dark brown streaks on the breast and flanks. The non-breeding male is similar but is more black than brown and usually has a hint of rose on its breast.
