The Golden Grosbeak is distributed in Venezuela and the Andes of Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in open woodland and at forest edges up to 3,500 metres.

Photos 1 and 2 are of male birds. The female in photo 3 has a duller head with black streaks.
