The Reddish-bellied Parakeet is found in south-east Brazil and neighbouring areas of Paraguay and Argentina. It is a fairly common bird within these areas.

Its preferred habitat is evergreen forest and it is closely linked to Araucaria and slash pine.

The most notable identification features are its reddish belly, the yellowish-green neck and breast, white eye-ring, the blue on the primaries and reddish-brown on the underside of the tail
