The Pearly Parakeet is a Brazilian endemic and is distributed south of the Amazon near its mouth and into Maranhão. It is found in terra firme forest. There is a distribution map on NatureServe.

Pearly Parakeet, Caxiuanã, Pará, Brazil, November 2005 - click for larger image Distinguishing features are its creamy white ear coverts, blue-green cheeks, whitish eye-ring, dark head, scaly buff throat and breast, green belly with bluish flanks, blue primaries and long reddish tail.

There are 3 sub-species and this is P. l. anerythra which has green underwing coverts and leading edge of wing as opposed to red in the other two sub-species.
