The Orange-crested Manakin is distributed in the north of Peru and the east of Ecuador. See the distribution map at xeno-canto. It is found in várzea (seasonally-flooded forest) below 300 metres.

The male has an orange crown stripe which is lacking in the female. This bird was perched up high in a large open wooden hut (the bar) at Sani Lodge so we were unable to see the crown.
