The Olive-backed Woodcreeper is distributed in the mountains of Venezuela and the Andes of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in the evergreen forests of the Andes mainly between 1,000 and 2,400 metres.
