The Green-winged Saltator is found in south and central Brazil as well as adjoining areas of Bolivia, Paraguay and Argentina.

It inhabits woodland, forest borders and clearings.

It generally resembles Greyish Saltator Saltator coerulescens but has a much longer white supercilium and its flight feathers and back are olive green rather than grey.
