The Loggerhead Kingbird is distributed in most of the islands of the West Indies. It is found in forests, mangroves and swamp edges where it feeds on insects, lizards and fruits.

It has a black head with a squarish profile at the back. (The Giant Kingbird has a more rounded head). The black contrasts with the dark grey back and tail while underparts are white although some sub-species have a yellow wash on the lower belly. The tail tip is square with a buffy-white terminal band.
