Chilean name: Minero grande

Creamy-rumped Miner, Laguna Miñiques, Chile, January 2007 - click for larger image The Creamy-rumped Miner is distributed in the Andes of Central and northern Chile and the extreme north-west of Argentina. The distribution map at Birdlife International shows its distribution in the central Andes but not the populations, such as this one, found slightly further north. It is found on dry, rocky slopes at between 3,000 and 5,000 metres.

The main identification features are its long primary extension, its dull face pattern and its dark alula contrasting with its pale wings. It has a creamy rump and tail base while the tail itself is dark.
