The Chestnut-winged Cinclodes is distributed in the Andes from western Venezuela through Colombia and Ecuador to northern Peru. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in open grassland such as páramo and puna and arid scrub and is mainly between 3,200 and 4,300 metres.
