Chile The Bar-winged Cinclodes is distributed from Colombia through the Andes southwards to southern Chile and Argentina where it is found down to sea level. During the austral winter the southern populations migrate northwards to northern Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay and southern Brazil. |

It inhabits a variety of open grassland habitats usually near streams or rivers and often near human habitation. Photos 1 to 4 show the nominate sub-species found in central and southern Chile and Argentina while photos 5 to 7 show the sub-species C. f. albiventris found in the Andes from north Peru to north-west Argentina. |

This sub-species is redder above and paler below with a pale, almost white wing-stripe. Photo 5 shows an adult on the left just after feeding the juvenile on the right and photo 6 shows the juvenile. | |||
