The Red-browed Finch is distributed from Cape York, Queensland down the eastern coast of Australia to the south-east corner of Southern Australia including Kangaroo Island. It is found in a wide variety of habitats including forest clearings, scrub, agricultural land, golf-courses and gardens.

Red-browed Finch, Murramarang, NSW, Australia, March 2006 - click for larger image It has a red bill, eyebrow and rump. Upperparts are olive-green while the tail is black and underparts are grey. The immature lacks the red bill and eyebrow as can be seen in photo 3.
