| Brown Falcon Falco berigora |
| Australia February / April 2006 The Brown Falcon is distributed in Australia and Papua New Guinea. It is mainly found in open grassy woodland and agricultural areas. |
| It has been divided in up to 8 sub-species but HBW reduces this to 3 and Ferguson-Lees recognises one sub-species in Australia and another in New Guinea. This apparent confusion arises from the variation in plumage ranging from the very dark to a light morph with reddy-brown plumage above and almost white below. | ||||
| It sometimes hovers or glides while hunting but more often sits on a perch searching for prey before dropping down on its victim. It feeds on small mammals, small birds, reptiles and insects. | ||||
