The Australian King Parrot is distributed in eastern Australia from north-east Queensland to central Victoria. It is found in
rainforest, eucalyptus forest, urban parks and farmland.

It feeds on fruit, nuts, seeds, flowers and is particularly fond of mistletoe, eucalyptus and acacias.
The male has a bright red head and body with dark green wings with a light green band. The nape band is blue as is the rump
while the bill is red above and grey below. The eye is yellow.

The female, seen here in photo 4 and 5, is quite different with green upperparts, throat and breast, a red lower
breast and belly and a greyish-red bill. |
