The Australian King Parrot is distributed in eastern Australia from north-east Queensland to central Victoria. It is found in rainforest, eucalyptus forest, urban parks and farmland.

Male Australian King-Parrot, Murramarang NP, NSW, Australia, March 2006 - click for larger image It feeds on fruit, nuts, seeds, flowers and is particularly fond of mistletoe, eucalyptus and acacias.

The male has a bright red head and body with dark green wings with a light green band. The nape band is blue as is the rump while the bill is red above and grey below. The eye is yellow.
