Hooded Wheatear is distributed in the south-east corner of the Arabian Peninsula and into Iran and south-west Pakistan. There is a disjunct population around the north end of the Red Sea.

Hooded Wheatear, Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, December 2010 - click for larger image It is found in arid desert wadis and steep-sided ravines where it feeds on a variety of insects and spiders.

The male has a whitish crown and lower back. Otherwise, upperparts are black. Throat and breast are black while remaining underparts are white. The tail is white with a black central band. The female differs in being mainly brownish-grey.
