Isabelline Wheatear breeds from Greece through the Balkans and the Middle East through Central Asia to north central China. It winters in Africa, mainly south of the Sahara, in the Arabian Peninsula and through to western India.

It is found in arid and semi-arid open areas where it feeds on insects and small seeds.
