Black-winged Stilt is distributed in all continents outside Antarctica though some authorities split the species into, for example, Black-necked Stilt H. h. mexicanus and White-backed Stilt H. h. melanurus. (see my South American page)

In Abu Dhabi it is both a seasonal migrant and a resident breeder.
