The Socotra Cormorant is distributed in only a few colonies in the Persian Gulf and to the south of the Arabian Peninsula. It is classified as Vulnerable by Birdlife International.

Immature Socotra Cormorant, Abu Dhabi, March 2010 - click for larger image It is similar to Great Cormorant P. carbo but is slightly smaller with a slimmer head and neck. The adult lacks the white face and chin patch of the Great Cormorant.

These photos are of an immature where the pale fringes to the coverts and scapulars help to identify it as a Socotra.
