The Little Red Flying-fox is distributed throughout much of Australia except Tasmania and is the most widespread of flying-fox species. It is found in forest, woodland and mangroves where they form large temporary camps.

They feed mainly on eucalyptus flowers but also on fruit, leaves, sap, bark and insects.
