Wood Sandpiper breeds in northern Europe and Asia often in swampy areas such as peat bogs and mainly between the tundra and the coniferous forest. In the northern winter they migrate to sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, India, south-east Asia and Australia. See the distribution map at Birdlife International.
