The European Bee-eater breeds in north-west Africa and from south-west Europe to central Asia. In the winter it migrates to West Africa and southern Africa. There is a resident population in South Africa. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in open country habitats. |

It feeds mainly on bumblebees and honey bees but also on wasps and other insects as the opportunity arises. | ||||
