The Bar-tailed Lark is distributed in the Cape Verde Islands, the Sahara Desert, the Arabian Peninsula and parts of Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan. See the distribution map at Birdlife International.

It is found in desert and semi-desert and in Morocco is found on regs - gravel areas with some sand and grasses. It forages on the ground seeking out seeds and insects.
