The Yellow-bellied Fairy-fantail is distributed along the Himalayas from Kashmir to southern China and south to northern Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.

It is the smallest fantail with upperparts dark grey-olive with a prominent yellow supercilium while below it is bright yellow.
