The Verditer Flycatcher is distributed in south-east Asia from the Himalayas to central and southern China and south to Indonesia. The Himalayan populations migrate to lower altitudes and southwards into India during the winter. It is found in a variety of habitats from forest and woodland to parks and gardens.

It perches very upright and tends to return to the same perch after hawking for insects. It frequently flicks its tail on landing.
