The Small Niltava is distributed along the Himalayas into south and east China as far as Hong Kong and southwards into northern Thailand and northern Indochina.

Male Small Niltava, Lingmethang Road, Mongar, Bhutan, April 2008 - click for larger image It is found on the edges and in clearings of evergreen forest where it forages for insects in the undergrowth. It also eats fruit.

A smallish flycatcher, it has a bright pale blue forehead, purplish-blue upperparts with black wings and a bright pale blue neck patch. It has a dull dark blue breast and greyish belly.
