The Rufous-breasted Bush-robin is distributed in the central and eastern Himalayas and into south China. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in mixed conifer forest and rhododendron forest.

upperparts with bright blue forehead and supercilium with a similar bright blue patch on the shoulder. The wings are slaty-blue and the tail is a deeper blue-grey. Underparts are orange with white on the crissum. The female is olive-brown above with a blue-grey tail, a brownish breast band and orange flanks.
