The Collared Grosbeak is distributed in the Himalayas and into north-east Myanmar and southern China.

It is found in coniferous and mixed coniferous/broadleaved forest mainly at between 2,000 and 4,000 metres.

Male Collared Grosbeak, Yutang La, Bumthang, Bhutan, April 2008 - click for larger image The male has a black head, throat wings and tail and is otherwise yellow. The bill is massive and horn coloured.

The female (some can be seen in the flock in photo 3) is olive-green rather than yellow and greyish rather than black.
