The Yellow-rumped Tinkerbird is distributed throughout much of Africa south of the Sahara and is probably the most common tinkerbird in that area. It is found in various forest and woodland habitats.

Yellow-rumped Tinkerbird, Kalakpa, Ghana, May 2011 - click for larger image This small barbet has black upperparts, a lemon-yellow rump, two white stripes on the face and a white throat leading to pale yellow on the belly.

The song is one of the most common sounds of the forest with a rhythmic series of three to six notes.
