The Yellow-fronted Tinkerbird is distributed throughout much of Africa south of the Sahara except in the Congo Basin and the south-west. It is found in wooded savanna and grassland.

Yellow-fronted Tinkerbird, Mole National Park, Ghana, June 2011 - click for larger image It has a yellow forecrown which is just visible in photo 1. Upperparts are black with white streaks and the wing feathers are edged pale yellow. Underparts are lemon-yellow.

It feeds on fruits and insects.

Its song is a monotonous series of notes which can go on for as long as ten minutes..
