The White-winged Collared-dove is distributed in a restricted area of Ethiopia and Somalia. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. Because of this restricted range and its apparently small population it is classified as Near Threatened. It is usually found near water particularly in riverine woodland. This particular bird was nesting in the roof of a veranda and the owner knew how difficult it was to see this species as he insisted on payment before he allowed us to see it.

In flight it shows a white bar across the wing. The eye is pale yellow with a white eye-ring.
