The African Collared-dove is distributed in a band across Africa just south of the Sahara and into the south-west of the Arabian Peninsula. It migrates to the north and south of this band depending on rain. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in thornbush and semi-desert.

It is a pale pinkish-grey on the head, neck and breast and has sandy-brown upperparts. The musical rolling call is distinctive.
