The Mourning Collared-dove is distributed in suitable habitat in Africa south of the Sahara. The habitat is arid and semi-arid bush typically including acacia. See the distribution map at Birdlife International.

A distinguishing feature is its whitish or pale yellow eye surrounded by a red orbital ring.
