The Speckled Mousebird is distributed throughout much of Africa south of the Sahara. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. There are 19 subspecies and grounds for believing that they may be split in the future into 3 species. It is found in bush, forest edge and gardens up to 2,400 metres.

Speckled Mousebird, Lake Chelekcheka, Ethiopia, January 2016 - click for larger image It has a brown crest, whitish cheek and black patch round the blue eye. The bill is black above and pinkish-horn below. They eat fruit, foliage, flowers and nectar.
