The Madagascar Buzzard is endemic to Madagascar where it is found in a variety of habitats from sea-level to 2,300 metres. See the distribution map at Birdlife International.

It is similar in size and shape to a Eurasian Buzzard B. buteo

The call is distinctive with its nasal, plaintive squeal compared to the Eurasian Buzzard's descending scream loudest at the start.
