The Somali Short-toed Lark is distributed from Ethiopia and Somalia through Kenya to Tanzania. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. Some authorities treat the southern sub-species A. s. athensis as a species known in English as the Athi Short-tailed Lark.

It is found in open country with short grass.

Note the pale supercilium and eye-ring.
