A member of the thrush family, the Snowy-crowned Robin-Chat is distributed in tropical Africa from Senegal to western Ethiopia and south to the Congo Basin. There is a distribution map at Birdlife International.

Snowy-crowned Robin-Chat, Mole, Ghana, June 2011 - click for larger image It is found in thickets and dense vegetation in savanna and at forest edges where it feeds on the ground on invertebrates and small fruits. It is distinguished from the much larger White-crowned Robin-Chat C. albicapilla by the extension of the rufous round the back of the neck.

The song is rich and melodious and can go on for up to 15 minutes. It usually includes many imitations of other birds.
