The Spotted Palm-thrush is distributed from South Sudan, southern Ethiopia and Somalia south through Kenya and Uganda to Tanzania. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. Unlike the other two Palm-thrush species it is rarely found near palms but in wooded grasslands and semi-arid bush where it feeds on the ground on invertebrates and fruits.
