The Rose-ringed Parakeet is distributed in Africa south of the Sahara and north of the Equator from Senegal to Somalia and in the Indian sub-continent. There are also feral populations descended from escaped cage birds in many parts of the world including London, Hong Kong and Singapore.

It has a long-pointed tail and a red bill. The male has a thin pink collar.
