The Olive Bee-eater is distributed in eastern Africa from the Horn of Africa to Mozambique, in Madagascar and with a disjunct population in Angola and Namibia. See the distribution map at Birdlife International.

It has a brown cap, white borders to its black mask and a brick-red throat.
