The Narrow-tailed Starling is distributed in Africa from Sierra Leone in the west to Uganda in the east. It is found in lowland primary forest and at forest edges and it is normally high in the canopy. The fly in small flocks in close formation.

The male appears black with a yellow eye and a long, narrow tail. The female is greyer with a chestnut wing patch which is visible in flight.

They mainly eat fruit but also forage for insects.
