near Yabello, Ethiopia The Magpie Starling is distributed in Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It seems to be nomadic with Ethiopia being more of a breeding area and Kenya more of a wintering area. It is found in arid and semi-arid habitats of open bush and woodland. |

The male is black and white with a red eye. The white wing patches are more obvious in flight. The female is grey rather than black. | |||
