Ethiopia The Augur Buzzard is distributed in eastern and south-western Africa. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in open country and areas with rocky outcrops. In Ethiopia it is seen between 1,500 and 4,500 metres. |

There are two morphs: The pale morph, seen here in photos 1 to 3, has white underparts. The female is larger than the male and tends to have a black or streaked throat. The dark morph, seen here in photo 4, is all black on the underparts. Both morphs have a distinctive rufous tail. In flight the silhouette shows the broad wings with bulging secondaries and the short tail. | |||

The dark morph is found predominantly in the northern part of its range.
It has a varied diet including snakes, lizards, rodents, mole rats, small birds, insects and carrion. |
