The Madagascar Blue Vanga is endemic to Madagascar where it is found in deciduous dry forest and evergreen humid forest up to 1,800 metres. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. This species has been split by Birdlife International from Comoro Blue Vanga C. comorensis which is endemic to the Comoros Islands.

It is a rather small vanga with contrasting ultramarine and white plumage.
