The Chabert Vanga is endemic to Madagascar where it is found mainly in a variety of forest types up to 1,000 metres. See the distribution map at Birdlife International.

Chabert Vanga, Mosa Park, Ifaty, Madagascar, November 2016 - click for larger image This sub-species from the south-west of Madagascar, L. c. schistocercus, is distinguished by the white on the outer tail feathers running two-thirds of the length before the black tip.

Despite appearances, the name Chabert does not refer to any individual but is rather a corruption of the Malagasy name for the bird.
