The Long-tailed Cormorant is distributed in Africa south of the Sahara and in Madagascar. It is mainly found on inland waters or on freshwater lagoons at the coast.

In breeding plumage it is
blackish with a short crest. In the non-breeding season it is
duller. Photo 2 is of a juvenile showing brown underparts.
